US naval ship Charles Drew arrived at L&T’s Katupalli Shipyard for repairs and maintenance

CHENNAI : US naval ship Charles Drew arrived at L&T’s Katupalli Shipyard for repairs and maintenance.

US Navy Ship has docked in India for the first time for repairs and maintenance. US naval ship Charles Drew arrived at L&T’s Katupalli Shipyard at Ennore, near Chennai yesterday for undertaking repairs and maintenance. This will be the first time that a US Navy ship is being repaired in an Indian shipyard.

The USNS Charles Drew will be at Kattupalli shipyard for 11 days from August 7 to 17 and undergo repairs in various areas. The event signifies the capabilities of Indian shipyards in the global ship repairing market. Indian shipyards offer wide ranging and cost-effective ship repair and maintenance services, using advanced maritime technology platforms.

India is looking forward to repair more ships from the US , Said Defence secretary Ajay Kumar. Kumar said that the initiative assumes significance in furthering the strategic partnership between India and US at a function organised on Sunday to receive a US Navy dry cargo ship USNS Charles Drew which arrived at kattupalli shipyard for repairs for 11 days.

The ministry said: “The event signifies the capabilities of Indian shipyards in the global ship repairing market. Indian shipyards offer wide-ranging and cost-effective ship repair and maintenance services, using advanced maritime technology platforms”.
