Tamil Nadu: NIA Raids Places Belonging to Important Functionaries of the Naam Thamizhar Party

In Tamilnadu, Officials of the National Investigation Authority today raided places belonging to important functionaries of the Naam Thamizhar Party led by actor-politician Seeman. The raids are being conducted at many places in Tiruchi, Tenkasi, Sivaganga, and Coimbatore districts. In this connection, the advocates of the legal wing of the Party have filed a plea at the Madras High Court against NIA conducting raids on the accusation that the Party has links with the banned organisation and collecting funds for the same. On the petition, Justice Ramesh said that the Court will hear the details of the case later today afternoon.

Reacting to the raids, the leader of the Party Seeman said that when he was the leader, raids had been happening to the party functionaries. Interacting with the media today, he said that it was a wrong accusation that the party had connections with the banned organisation and was collecting funds for it. He said that it would be meaningful if the issue could have been sorted out with him instead of harassing the family members of his party functionaries and calling it a political stunt. He said that all the functionaries in whose houses the raids were conducted have been called for interrogation by the NIA on the 5th of February and he said that he would also present himself before the NIA for giving an explanation.
