Government to Build Two Crore more houses in next five years under PM Awas Yojana (Grameen)

Despite the challenges due to COVID, implementation of PM Awas Yojana (Grameen) continued and we are close to achieving the target of three crore houses, says Financial Minister Nirmala Sitharaman while presenting Interim Budget 2024. She said, two crore more houses will be taken up in the next five years to meet the requirement arising from an increase in the number of families. To meet the housing requirements of the middle class, the government will launch a scheme to help deserving sections of the middle class “living in rented houses, or slums, or chawls and unauthorized colonies” to buy or build their own houses.

Through rooftop solarization, one crore households will be enabled to obtain up to 300 units of free electricity every month. Mrs. Sitharaman said, the Indian economy has witnessed profound positive transformation in the last ten years and people of the country are looking to the future with hope and optimism.

Finance Minister said, the development programmes of the Centre, in the last ten years, including ‘housing for all’, ‘har ghar jal’, electricity for all, cooking gas for all, bank accounts and financial services for all, have targeted each and every household and individual in record time. She said, through free ration for 80 crore people, the government eliminated worries about food. Minimum Support Prices (MSP) for the produce of Farmers are being increased periodically. She said, these initiatives of the government have enhanced real income in the rural areas.
